Rasta Coolerman (Born Ralph Siyabonga Phombeya, December 28,
1989, Blantyre, Malawi) is a reggae musician, He is one of the
critically contemporary reggae artist noted for his best
performance and studio recordings as of 2008 releasing a hit
single and have recently composed a solo album.
Coolerman was born in Chilobwe, Blantyre, Malawi to a devoted
Christian family and traditional youth empowerment music. In 1995
(Age 5) he went to Nawotcha primary school in his home township
Chilobwe. As every young boy he loved music and riding his bike,
while riding his bicycle he broke his right leg, he needed an
operation on the leg then travelled to South Africa
(Johannesburg)with his mother. His passion for music grew in 2003
while recovering from his injury he listened to a lot different
artists such as Peter Tosh, Shaba Ranks, Alan Namoko, Lucius
Banda, Evason Matafari, Annie Matumbi and many artists from
different genres. After recovering from his injury he started
composing his own style of music and decided to name himself
Coolerman. His mother took him from Johannesburg to Witbank where
he lived with his elder mother so he could concentrate on his
studies, his passion for music did not stop him from pursuing his
dream, in 2008 he did a collaboration with M'du, their song made
a huge impact in Witbank township, this was not enough for
Coolerman, he felt he needed to do something for his Malawian
people, he then released his first single , "Coolerman Ndabwela"
which he produced at his home made studio. He has worked and
performed with other popular Malawian artists such as Mafunyeta,
Annie Matumbi, Born Afrikan, Piksy and Katelere and on many
shared stages, by 2012 he had written a full album that was
produced in 2013 soon to be released and many more to come.
