Biography

ARTIST PROFILE: Richard Mgala I am a 30 year old male artist. My name is Richard Mgala and I was born and raised in Malawi, Traditional Authority Kyungu in Kalonga district. I happen to be the one blessed with saxophone playing capability/ability in our family . I obtained my certificate in music in 2015 at Lusubilo music center and became music teacher at the same school for three years. This was due to my consistency and good performance in class. In 2020, I have recorded my debut album in Smooth Jazz in South Africa I have performed on various stages, created by various musical promoters in this country, viz., Lake of Stars music festival in 2015 and 2016 with Lusibilo band as Saxophonist, WHAT BOUNDARIES music project with Germany based band (Andromeda mega express orchestra) having live performance in Malawi and Germany in 2016 respectively, participated in the pyeongchang arts dream camp in South Korea in 2017, participated in Lilongwe Jazz festival in 2018 with Erick Pallian, participated in Lilongwe jazz festival in 2019 as an artist. My achievements include: Played with Lusubilo band at Chibuku competition in the year 2012 as Saxophonist and won first prize Played with Lusubilo band at Chibuku competition in the year 2012 as Saxophonist and won second prize In a year of 2014 as Lusubilo band, we won first price as best band in Malawi (MUMA) award
