“
In all the days of my life goodness shall follow I, for I & I never let the bad mind disease come and disease I. I read the Holy Scripture and walk in the footsteps of Jah because in everything the Most High has always been my anchor.” – Rootsi
Born Harry Chanamuna, on 2 June 1996 - in Lilongwe Town, Area 18A, Malawi. Where Harry was exposed to music at an early stage. Harry attained his secondary education at Mtendere Secondary School and Chimutu Community Day Secondary School respectively. He later studied Environmental Health at Malawi College of Health Sciences before focusing on music.
Locally he grew up listening to Sally Nyondo, the legendary Evison Matafale and Malawian reggae greats Black Missionaries. Internationally he grew up listening to UB40, Culture, and Bob Marley just to mention a few. To a greater extent the playlist having some of the reggae finest is what nurtured Harry into the roots reggae artist he has become.
Using the stage name Rootsi, he started his musical career in 2016. With consistent support from a friend Kondwani ‘Asher’ Chitembeya, he never settled for less. Rootsi takes music as a platform to spread the Messages of Jah, peace and love and hard work. He would love to live and inspire lives through music: conscious roots reggae music.
Stepping in 2018, Rootsi has finished working on his first ever project in his music career, a 6-track EP: Inna Cucumber. Inna Cucumber dwells much on the ‘created to be positively fruitful’ aspect of man.
So far Rootsi has worked with a number of producers such as: Trumel at Grapes Records, Chycoon at Njuchi Music, JK Warrior at Alliance Records and Recall ‘Addi Teacher’ of Kuimba Mwamphamvu.
With hard work and focus, Rootsi is taking one step at a time to take his music to the big stage. He focuses on representing reggae music and Malawian music in general at an international level. Currently Rootsi has started recording his debut album ‘Original Street Music’.a
