Awali was the name given to Che Awali Kd. after his birth. Awali means 'the SWORD' in Arabic, and 'the BEGINNING' in Swahili. Bula Kanyimbo Dzimbiri was his father from Chibwana Village, Liwonde, and settled in Lirangwe, Blantyre. Mother was from Khwawa, T.A. Wasambo, Karonga. Due to the custom of his father of divorcing wives, then his mother's turn came. Was divorced together with five children.
Before his mother's divorce, Awali attended primary schools at St Matthew's in Nchalo and Lirangwe in Blantyre. After divorce he attended at Bunga primary in Nkhata Bay, and Khwawa primary in Chilumba, Karonga. Then went to Chilumba Secondary school. His life was faced with tough times, due to lack of financial support, for the unemployed mother was heavily burdened by five children, and was depending on the odd jobs to support the children.
His musical ambition was derived from the pain that he experienced since childhood. While at primary school, he made his guitar from wood and goat's skin. Unfortunately his grandmother broke it into pieces, because she did not find her tobacco where she put. She thought Awali had taken it and threw away, for he was against tobacco smoking of his grandmother. Awali did not take or hide it. And his music journey was stopped.
Later, Awali started learning how to play xylophone (malimba/mangolongondo) by certain young man, and the fees was fish, which Awali was stealing from the basket which his uncle bought for business. Unfortunately his grandfather threw the xylophone set deep into the bush, because Awali was not going to school. After that he started singing with his cousin, Suzgo Mtegha and others. They were imitating Katawa Singers, Mhango Salvation Singers, Madalitso Choir, Namasalima Singers etc. and was known as a good singer.
And later he was selected, and went to Chilumba Secondary school in Karonga. At Chilumba, him and some students like; Samuel Ngwira, Kondwani Kamuzawe, Stocker, Gift Kayuni, Garry Muyombe and others, formed a singing group which was performing at general assemblies time. Awali was mostly leading singer. He started composing, writing, and arranging songs at primary school. His popularity at Chilumba had no barriers, both day and night scholars appreciated his talent. And he made a decision that he would be a musician. Music was his pain killer, for he was being relieved from anxiety and fear of lack of school fees and pocket money. Besides music, he was also a good fine artist.
After his secondary school, he went to Mzuzu City, following his mother. And life there was unbearable, as city life demands money. One day as he was walking in Lubinga, he heard people singing in the church. And was very eager to meet them. After being told where the singers resident was, he went to meet them in Mzuzu University, at Lecturer Reuben Hango's house. After being interviewed, he joined Tikhu Singers, later became Tikhu Vibrations Band. Tiwonge Hango and his brother Khumbo were the back bone of the band. As Mr Hango left school campos and lived at Mapale in Masasa, Mzuzu, band activities were taking place there also. As a singer, Awali was also learning how to play bass guitar, by Chris Phiri the band director. Tiwonge, Khumbo, Chance, Nulu, Regina, Evans, Robert, Kondwani and Awali, were band members.
In 2003 Awali's life started to change from misery to hope, as the band won international music cross roads competition in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania. After winning regional and national competitions in Malawi. And were awarded with a prize, tour in Sweden. After Sweden they went to their sponsor's (Gill Hunter) home, UK, and performed in England and Scotland. Though the band was playing Malawi traditional music fused with pop, Awali's favorite music was reggae. He liked Alpha Blondy, Bob Marley, Chaka Demus, Lucky Dube, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Lucius Banda, Young Generations, Malawi contemporary musicians ect.
Though after Swedish tour the band dismantled, Awali kept on doing his music, for music found favorite place in him. He thanked Yahuah for stopping paying rent, because he acquired his own residence in Mzuzu city through music. And now is serving Yah through music. His compositions are based on rebuking all wicked conduct of the evil world. He worships Yahuah the Aluah through Yahusha Ha Ma.shi'ach the only Mesiah. He uses the moon, the real Calendar of the Creator.
He released two albums. In 2008, first single 'Democratic Class' recorded by Lulu. And 'Baby Why' single recorded by Masudi Khonje. Album title 'Daniel Wulula' and the rest were recorded by Chris Kele at Metro Jive Studio. Second album 2010, recorded by Joe Matani. And now he is recording singles like; 'Eliya' , 'Mkazi Wokongola', 'Zimbabwean Lady', 'The Fire Is Coming', and working with Wisky Jim. The music journey is in progress now.
To Yahuah be glory and praises! Ahman.
