Ronald Thamakera (born on 4 December, 1985), nicknamed Ron Thama, is a prolific Malawian recording gospel artist, songwriter and performer.
Ronald is the first born in a family of eight, two boys and six girls. Born at Holly Mission Hospital in Phalombe, he hails from Nalingula Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkhumba, Phalombe.
He began his music career at the age of 9 at a local church, Naminjiwa CCAP of the Blantyre Synod. He was inspired by his father, a singer in the church’s quartet. When he moved to the capital Lilongwe, Ronald to become the choir master for the Lilongwe CCAP Police Choir and this played a major role in refining his skills as composer, songwriter and vocalist.
Thamakera came on the limelight in the Malawian gospel music circles in 2008 when he released his debut album titled “Uli ndi Mwai”, which did not do well on the market due to poor marketing. Believing that such failure is not the end, in 2014 Thamakera went on to release another album titled “Wandichotsa Kutali” and the reception was quite remarkable.
On 29 February, 2016, Thamakera released his third album titled “Mau Anu”, which has already hit the market across the country. Recorded at Groove Magic Studios and One Heart Studios by Joseph Tembo and Lloyd Phiri, respectively, the album has songs such as the title track, “Mwandichitira Zazikulu”, “Tizaimba Hossana”, “Mbuye Mumandikwanira”, “Timauza Mbuye”, “Tipemphe Yesu” and “Tidalire Pemphero”.
Since 2008, he has shared stage with different gospel artists among them Ndirande Anglican Voices, Great Angels Choir, Ethel Kamwendo-Banda, Favoured Martha, Maggie Mangani, Lloyd Phiri, Mlaka Maliro, Steve Muliya, Thocco Katimba, Princess Chitsulo, Marvelous Deeds, P.O.V, Good Friday, Martha Kasambala and Donnex Muva.
He is managed by journalist Chris Loka, who works with Channel For All Nations as reporter, presenter and producer. Thamakera will this year be graduating with a Degree in Accounting and Finance from Pentecostal Life University.
