1Phenixx, is a Malawian Dancehall artist based in Lilongwe. His real name is Godfrey Banda, 1Phenixx started doing serious music in 2022, since the, he has been known for blending traditional Malawian rhythms with modern urban sounds, creating a unique and refreshing vibe in Malawi’s dancehall community. Born and raised in the heart of Lilongwe, 1Phenixx started writing music at the age of 17. He was inspired by local legends such as the late Mafunyeta and Positive Yut, as well as international dancehall icons including Jahmiel and Masicka. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of the ghetto and the global dancehall wave, he developed a sound that bridges cultures and generations. In 2022, 1Phenixx made his mark with the release of "Ghetto 2di World (Remake)", a collaboration with Chizmo Sting. The track gained notable traction on local radio stations and received positive feedback on his YouTube channel. Since then, he has continued collaborating with rising talents like Bieg Man, expanding his network and sharpening his sound. His musical style draws heavily from Dancehall and soul, with lyrical influences from artists such as Masicka, Chronic Law, and Nation Boss. His lyrics often reflect everyday realities, personal growth, and street wisdom, making his music both relatable and motivational. Some of his notable tracks include “Ghetto 2di World (Remake)” (2022), “2FA” featuring Sean Morgan (2024), “Nthawi” featuring Joe Kellz and Eli Njuchi (2024), and “Friend Cheap” (2025). These tracks show his versatility and willingness to experiment with different vibes and collaborations. Though still rising, 1Phenixx has already received recognition from key figures in the industry. Chizmo Sting took notice of his freestyle and invited him to collaborate. In 2024, dancehall artist Sean Morgan referred to him as a “Dolo” in a TikTok comment a subtle nod to his growing influence. Currently, 1Phenixx is working on releasing a series of singles before committing to a full project, with major releases expected in late 2025.
