Biography

Michael Haji, professionally known as Jaguar, is a versatile Malawian artist originally from Songani, Zomba, and raised in Zingwangwa, Blantyre. A musical all-rounder, Jaguar does not confine himself to a single genre—his creative journey is one of exploration and self-discovery as he continues to define his unique sound across multiple styles. Jaguar’s passion for music began in 2000, inspired by his father’s love for reggae legends such as Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, and other Jamaican icons. Although music was not initially part of his career ambitions, the influence of reggae culture and the artistry of Damian “Junior Gong” Marley shaped his creative direction over the years. Early in his journey, Jaguar worked on several unreleased projects, including a collaboration with the late Legendary Joseph Tembo, produced by Ojan, whose untimely passing halted the official release of their song. After this setback—and the financial strain that followed—Jaguar temporarily stepped back from active production. Despite these challenges, he continued contributing to the Malawian music industry behind the scenes, offering his skills and support to renowned artists such as Grace Chinga and Jeffrey Zigoma. Today, Jaguar is focused on establishing his own brand and musical identity, blending experience, passion, and resilience into his artistry as he re-emerges on the scene.
