Biography

Jamba 1, whose real name is James Watch, is a passionate and spiritually driven Malawian artist from Machinga, Liwonde. His journey into music is rooted in a unique and powerful dream he had back in 2013. In this dream, he found himself in a beautiful place where people moved gracefully through fields and trees, drawn to a poster that surprisingly featured his own face. Shortly after, a vehicle carrying a band passed by, playing music that inspired him deeply. This moment marked the beginning of his musical journey. The first song he created from that dream was titled Banana, with a hook that included the phrase “Yomwe ndi Nava.” This song symbolized the start of his path in music. From there, Jamba 1 continued to grow as an artist, and in 2017, he collaborated on a gospel track titled Usalire with Chisomo Golombe,a song that brought him recognition and touched many hearts. In 2020, he expanded his music career by working with Sir Patricks and Sitch Fray on a track titled Usakane. Despite facing challenges with limited access to proper recording tools and platforms, Jamba 1 remained committed to performing, especially in community "ghetto" shows organized by Ghetto fellas, where he brought high energy and passion to every stage. For Jamba 1, music is not just entertainment it is a divine calling. He sees his talent as a gift from God, meant to spread spiritual messages and promote positive cultural values in Malawi. Through his music, he aims to inspire, uplift, and educate people by sharing messages of faith and cultural pride. Jamba 1 takes great pride in his musical ministry and believes he has been chosen to serve God and his nation through music.
