Young Stonald Lungu

Biography

Born on 13 September, 1990, Young Stonald Lungu, hails from Khwangwala Village in Ntcheu. He is a son of Malawian acoustic music legend, Stonald Lungu. Being the last in a family of seven ‘Young Stonald Lungu’ has taken a step in furthering his in-born talent, picking from where his father left, making Afro Jazz and the Lungus blood synonymous. Gifted just as his late father in music compositions that reflect on the daily life of a typical Malawian, Young Stonald Lungu is filling the boots left by his father. With his founded Young stonz band in Ndirande, the outskirts of Blantyre, Young Stonald Lungu has produced ten songs, slated for a release as an album titled Mzimu wa Agogo this September, 2016 under INS Media Entertainment. Aside the Afro Jazz touch to his music, it is his admirable ability to perform live music that has earned him the respect and admiration of the people in Malawi. His talent was spotted after his debut track Ndimakukonda (Nambewe), and attracted established like Picksy to star him in his Tsoka Liyenda video. He sings in the nation's dominant Chichewa language and he also incorporates elements of different musical traditions, giving his music a distinctive style. Most of his songs focus on the social and economic issues that govern people's daily lives. His commitment to development has seen his collaborate with partners and done theme songs for national institutions like ESCOM and countrywide projects like MASAF 4. As the youngest of seven children, Young Stonald has developed a sense of social and economic responsibility and still stays with his mother in Ndirande.
