Young Kay aka Hyphan aka Broken Knowledge is a Rush Records artist and has appeared on numerous projects and has made his name as one of Malawi’s best lyricist. He has been voted as Malawi’s best rapper by listeners of Joy FM (Local Radio Station) solidifying his status on the hip-hop scene of Malawi. His album of 2007 “Exhale” is one of the best albums to ever emerge from Malawi, clever lyricism and his ability to mix Chichewa and English backed by production from Dezert Eagle and the production duo Dare Devil, showed that he was an artist that could stand on his own. The album featured many artist such as Shawishe aka Kenny Klips, Dezert Eagle, Cyclone from Basement, Blackamor, Naseelah and Goodson Gomonda just to mention a few and was mixed and mastered by Rush Records’ Pempho “Rissah” Kafoteka. Forever challenging himself Young Kay has started to work on his next album “1st Impressions” and for this project has decided to break beyond borders with a string of surprise guest appearances by some of Africa’s best and hidden talents lined up for the album. With a video of the 1st single off his album “Get it straight” already making noise on the local scene, he is one artist to look out for 2008-2009.. Young Kay has performed on the same stage as 2face, Jozi and Nameless when the international artists came to the country.
